Getting A Room

Kaiiul and Tserof viewing the sky on a mountain top

This weekend, July 31st and August 1st, my goal was to grind for company seals.  I was doing so in order to increase my Grand Company Rank.  I needed to reach the rank of Second Serpent Lieutenant in The Order of the Twin Adder.  By reaching that rank I would earn the privilege of purchasing a home of my own.  In my case I don’t want a house of my own I just want an apartment room within the Zen Bassmasters house, The Fishing Hole.  Guess what? I reached my goal!  It really wasn’t a bad grind like I expected. I was able to almost complete my goal on Saturday.  I shall describe my adventure below.

The first thing I always do at the beginning of my weekend sessions is retrieve Drax from the chocobo stables at The Fishing Hole.  I stable him in hopes that other Zen Bassmasters members might feed and train him.  His favorite food is gourds.  I’m not exactly sure how experience for chocobos works but he seems to gain a small amount of experience while with me during battles and also gets experience when he is in the stables and somebody trains and feeds him.  Chocobo leveling seems tougher than leveling my character. It is a slow process.  After taking Drax out of the stables it was time to get me some company seals.  The first step was to do the daily roulettes.  This is a system called the Duty System and it randomly chooses a previous dungeon for you to play through with a party.  It will only do a dungeon you have been through peviously.  If you complete this random dungeon you are rewarded experience and seals.  Entropius watches my streams and he had told me that eventually I would be able to trade magic items in for seals.  Before that I had been passing on lower level magic items.  After doing the duty roulette I had enough seals to gain one rank in the grand company too I went to the city of Gridania to ask for a promotion within the Twin Adders. I received my promotion and it is the one I needed to gain the ability to trade in magic items! Even though I had been passing on a lot of magic items I still had a bag full of magic items.  After exchanging those items for seals I gained another promotion and was halfway to the last promotion I needed!  I had done the duties for the day and my grand company hunting logs were complete so the next best way to get seals is by doing what are called “Fates”.  Fates are battles that appear on the map at random times.  These battles are usually a large hoard of monsters attacking a town or area.  You and other players can team up to destroy the hoard and protect the area.  I had my lancer hunting log to complete so I figured i would do that and would probably run into fates along the way.  I only needed seven or eight hunts to complete my lancer hunting log.  As I started doing my hunts Kaiiul (Entropius) logged in and decided to join me.  I welcomed the company and Kaiiul seemed to have fun watching me as I ran in circles looking for my prey.  We also took time to enjoy a lot of the scenery.  This is such a beautiful game.  By the end of Saturday night we had finished my hunting log and as I figured we ran into lots of Fates during the hunt!  Kaiiul logged off and I went back to The Fishing Hole.  I was less than 2000 seals away from my goal and would be able to get those doing the Duty Roulette the next day, Sunday.

The first thing I did Sunday was the duty roulette.  That gave me enough seals to again get a promotion in the Twin Adders! With this promotion I earned the privilege to own a home!  I quickly teleported to The Fishing Hole and purchased a room for 300,000 gil.  That left me with 200,000 to purchase furnishings.  For the next 2 hours I decorated my room and was rather pleased.  I still want a huge Their 4 Aquarium and some plants but I’ll get them when i can afford them.  After a food break in real life, I started doing main story quests.  I love these quests because the story is so good!  They can take a long time unless you skip through the dialogue and cut scenes. Don’t ever skip that stuff though.  During these quests I had to fight King Moggle Omg XII and boy was that a fun fight.  It took 4 or 5 tries but I got it done. Sometimes it takes a try or two before you figure out what strategy to use on a boss.  I ended my Sunday night doing more main story quest.  Next weekend I plan on doing main story quests on Saturday and then maybe work on my fishing and culinary skills on Sunday.  We will see :)

Once again thanks to you for reading this meditation!
