At One With the Bait

Do we have a few tales to tell!

The Zen Bassmasters have been gaming for thirty years, now, and while many of us are getting on in years we’re still at it. It’s been a rocky road but that just means there’s more to talk about. Maybe even some stories that might interest you.

We are typical gamers. No, I don’t mean young, hard-core obsessives with no goals aside from the win and the high score. Rather, we’re older people with jobs, families, responsibilities and far too little time to do the things we enjoy. We ARE typical gamers—gaming is for fun, a past-time, but not the only things in our lives. We have a saying that encapsulates this—RLTG, Real Life Trumps Game.

But when we game, we’re in it to enjoy it. We die. A lot. I mean a really, awful lot. It’s part of being the typical gamer. Game devs have a challenge calibrating their games to be enjoyed by the wide spectrum of gamers who play them. Being “not uber” means we enter the most challenging content at an automatic disadvantage. 1) We’re not geared for it, 2) We’re not as skilled as “hard core” players, 3) We don’t give a damn if we win, dying gloriously is just as much fun as not. Eventually we want to succeed, of course, but with age comes the realization that the journey is often more important than the destination.

Anyways, if all goes well we’ll share some trail wisdom (or idiocy, depends who you ask) and get some laughs as we go. For now, we’re glad you’re here, and hope you check back from time to time.

Thanks!
